Titleist considers the
Titleist AP2 710 Forged Irons a "dual cavity design." The very first cavity
is pretty obvious: it is the top portion of the club, above the elastomer cushion and
below the topline of the club. The next cavity is hidden through the tungsten nickel box.
Both cavities push the weight to the perimeter, improving forgiveness on off-center shots.
The low cavity is "capped" with what Titleist bills the "central cross member." It's
really a metal shelf that connects the back of the cavity towards the clubface, right
behind the impact area, also it raises the rigidity of the rather thin clubface while
acting in cooperation using the elastomer cushion to cut back face vibration.
